United Way of Baldwin County to Host “State of A.L.I.C.E.” Community Discussion
Community leaders, businesses, and residents invited to explore the realities facing working households across Baldwin County
The United Way of Baldwin County will host its upcoming “State of A.L.I.C.E.” event, bringing together community leaders, businesses, nonprofits, and residents for an important discussion about the growing number of working families struggling to make ends meet across Baldwin County.
The event will focus on the challenges facing A.L.I.C.E. households — Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed — a term used to describe hardworking individuals and families who earn above the federal poverty level but still cannot afford basic necessities such as housing, childcare, food, transportation, healthcare, and technology.
Hosted by the United Way of Baldwin County, the event aims to raise awareness, share local and statewide data, and encourage meaningful conversations around financial stability, workforce challenges, and community solutions.
According to United Way and ALICE research, many essential workers — including teachers, childcare providers, healthcare staff, retail employees, hospitality workers, and service industry professionals — continue to face increasing financial pressure despite maintaining employment.
“ALICE households are the backbone of our communities,” organizers noted. “These are the people who keep our schools, businesses, healthcare systems, and local economy running every day. This event is about understanding the realities many families face and exploring how our community can work together to create long-term solutions.”
The discussion will provide attendees with insights into current economic trends affecting Alabama families while also highlighting opportunities for collaboration among local businesses, nonprofit organizations, government leaders, and community advocates.
