SWDA of Baldwin County to Celebrate America Recycles Day
On Nov. 14, SWDA Events are planned across the Baldwin County
SUMMERDALE, Ala. — The Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County (SWDA) invites residents to celebrate America Recycles Day on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with activities at its Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Summerdale and Centers for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRMs) in Fairhope and Orange Beach. The celebration will bring together recycling education, family-friendly activities and community engagement while highlighting the growing recycling opportunities available throughout Baldwin County.
The main celebration will take place at SWDA's Materials Recovery Facility, located at 15101 Terra Bella Drive in Summerdale. Attendees can enjoy live music, food and drinks from Slice of Fire and The Lucky Lemon, bounce houses, balloon animals and arts and crafts for children. Guests will also have the opportunity to tour SWDA's Waste & Recycling Adventure Center. The space allows residents to explore how materials are sorted, processed and reused, offering an immersive, hands-on experience designed to bring recycling and waste management to life.
In addition to the Summerdale celebration, SWDA will host activities at its Fairhope and Orange Beach CHaRM facilities. The Fairhope location will feature drink and food trucks for the occasion, and both CHaRMs will offer promotional giveaways.
America Recycles Day also provides an opportunity to highlight SWDA's continued investment in recycling infrastructure and expanded services throughout Baldwin County, including:
• Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), Summerdale: A 62,000-square-foot facility capable of processing up to 40,000 tons of recyclables annually.
• Waste & Recycling Adventure Center, Summerdale: An educational facility offering opportunities for residents to learn about recycling, waste reduction and environmental stewardship.
• Centers for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRMs): Facilities in Fairhope, Summerdale and Orange Beach that expand access to recycling of materials that cannot be placed in standard curbside recycling bins.
• Curbside Recycling Program: SWDA's expanding residential recycling service, providing convenient weekly collection for participating households throughout Baldwin County.
"America Recycles Day is an opportunity to bring our communities together, celebrate our progress and encourage more residents to take advantage of local recycling resources," said SWDA Chief Executive Officer Terri Graham. "By expanding access to recycling, we're making it easier for residents to make a difference and help protect the communities we call home."
